Ears to the Angels (S$32/US$19.40) SOLD

Here (or should it be "Ear" ... heh heh heh) is a pair of angel ear-rings made with lavender Czech glass (for the skirts), Swarovski pearls (for the heads) and Swarovski crystals in amethyst. I've used ear posts instead of hooks and these are 925 sterling silver.

More angels/wings are coming up in the next few weeks! I just need some more inspiration to create other angelic designs as I really prefer not to make the exact same thing (ie. same colour, same stone, same jewellery bits) again.

Angelic In Pink (S$28/US$17) SOLD

This little angel with a pink skirt hangs off two suede cords in baby pink and salmon pink which you can tie in a bow at the back of your neck. If you prefer to have a clasp, just let me know how long you want the necklace to be.

The pendant also has accents of Amethyst and Rhondonite. The angel's head and skirt are Czech glass.

* Metaphysical Properties of Amethyst: Amethyst is revered for its purifying effects. It is supposed to help relieve stress and is particularly helpful for those who suffer from insomnia.

* Metaphysical Properties of Rhondonite: Also known as pink marble, Rhondonite is said to represent strong femininity (think iron fist in a velvet glove). It is also known as the "singer's stone" because it is associated with the throat chakra. Rhondonite is believed to help develop good self-esteem too.

Angels Over My Heart (NOW CHARLENE'S)

Here is the first in a batch of angel-related items. As you can see, the pearl expedition was successful, and that first angel now has a more normal-size head AND a new friend.

This creation was inspired by someone who recently bought something from me; she has such a big heart and was looking to purchase items for her friends, not for herself. This necklace includes accents of Lapis Lazuli, which is said to be a symbol of friendship.

This comes with a double-cord necklace and measures about 16 inches. The extension chain at the back adds another 1 1/2 inches. Click the second pic to see it larger -- it shows how long the dangle measures.

* Metaphysical properties of Lapis Lazuli: This symbol of truth and friendship was one of the earliest gemstones ever to be worn as jewellery. The ancient Greeks, Romans, Mesopotamians and Egyptians all valued this gemstone, and some considered it a holy stone. Today, some people believe that Lapis Lazuli brings harmony into relationships and is said to be a mental and spiritual "cleanser" as well.

GoodHealth Fengshui - NOT AVAILABLE

According to what the nice young man who attended to me said, the pendant on this necklace is an item which the traditional Chinese often give to babies or young children. It is supposed to be a symbol of good health. So since good health is something all of us can appreciate, especially in this age of SARS and flu pandemic fears, I thought it would be nice to use as a pendant for us adults as well!

The necklace features Citron Chysoprase (said to promote emotional balance), citrine chips (symbol of happiness, wisdom and peace), bronzetone beads and Swarovski crystals. Necklace measures about 26". Clasp is 14K gold-filled.

Metaphysical properties of Chrysoprase (based on internet research): The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used this gemstone in their jewellery and was believed to have unusual powers, including that of invisibility! Chrysoprase is said to heal a broken heart and promote emotional balance.

Metaphysical properties of Citrine (based on internet research): This symbol of happiness, wisdom and peace is said to help eliminate negative thoughts. Some believe that it stimulates memory, aids digestion and removes toxins from the body.

Crazy Lace 2 (S$66/US$40)

This necklace measures about 16 1/2 inches and also includes Swarovski crystals and pearls and goldtone pewter beadcaps. Clasp and 2-inch extension chain are 14K gold-filled.

Red Jasper in particular is believed to be able to deflect negative energy back to the sender!

My Angel (not priced yet)

This one isn't priced yet because it isn't quite finished yet -- the poor angel's head is a little too big and so today I'm off on a hunt for a pearl of the perfect size.

There will be a limited number of angels created because the wings are from the US and I don't have very many of them. They come in silvertone, goldtone and bronzetone. So please check back soon for angel pendants, ear-rings and bracelets.

Sayang Bali (S$55/US$33.30) SOLD

I was reminded of magical Bali yesterday, after receiving one of those fun questionaire e-mails friends sometimes send each other about favourite places, foods, etc etc. Bali is one of my favourite destinations, so happy memories came flooding back. So when "play" time came, these mother-of-pearl beads called out to be made into something, and Sayang Bali (Love Bali) emerged.

The pendant is dalmation jasper, accented with wirework which depicts the waves of Bali. Interspersed between the shells are glimmering little Swarovski crystals, faceted smokey quartz and Swarovski pearls. S-hook clasp is 14K gold-filled. Necklace measures about 17 1/2 inches.

The Philharmonic - SOLD

This past Saturday, my dear friend A, her husband and I caught the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Esplanade. Now, I'm actually a culture-dodo and so appreciate it when A introduces me to all things artistic. Anways, the MPO was SUPER! Their sound is so rich and crisp. Oh, and the Singapore-born violinist who was the star of the Sibelius piece was awesome. She became the music and sucked the audience into each soaring note.

This creation was inspired by that lovely evening and the pretty necklace that A wore as well. Her line of jewellery is called Rock Candy and is available at the Mandarin Hotel Arcade.

The Philharmonic is made with smooth, glassy lace onyx circles and freshwater pearl coins. A deep red garnet adds a subtle shot of additional colour at the end of each dangle. The other sections of this "orchestra" include faceted black onyx beads, labradorite chips and Swarovski pearls. Chains and clasp are rhodium. Necklace measures about 16 1/2 inches.

Metaphysical Properties of Onyx (based on internet research): Onyx is supposed to help eliminate negative thinking and sharpen one's wits. It is a stone associated with eloquence in public speaking and is also said to help those who are trying to change bad habits.

Metaphysical Properties of Garnet (based on internet research): Garnets have been a popular gemstone for thousands of years and symbolizes faith, courage, truth, compassion and fidelity. It is said to have a peaceful energy and is also supposed to protect travellers from harm!

Good Fortune Fengshui (S$68/US$41.20) SOLD

One of my favourite aspects of jewellery-making is the fun derived from learning new things. For example, I learned that the pendant on this necklace is often used by Fengshui practitioners as a symbol of wealth.

The day this "coin" came home with me was also the day a nice, chatty cab driver shared the story of each individual behind "Fu Lu Shou." I had known that Fu Lu Shou represents longevity, high status and wealth (I don't think in that order, so please forgive my ignorance), but never knew the background. Here is a link to more info on "Fu Lu Shou" from an online store: http://www.dragon-gate.com/shopping/product/productDetail.asp?sku=PW004&id=717&cid=26

This 17" necklace also features dalmation jasper, golden-shine obsidian, pewter bead spacers and goldtone beads. Clasp and extension chain are 14K gold-filled.

Metaphysical Properties of Jasper (based on internet research): Jasper was another favourite stone of the ancients and it comes in a constellation of varieties! Jasper is said to drive away negativity and give the user courage to be true to oneself in thought, word and deed.

Metaphysical Properties of Obsidian (based on internet research): Obsidian is said to help the user gain insights into any problem. This gemstone is also supposed to help improve vision.

The Ocean - SOLD

Jasper and Labradorite combine with cool silver to evoke a feel of the calm, deep green ocean. The centrepiece is an Ocean Jasper square with interesting markings which remind me of the ocean floor.... or what I imagine the ocean floor to look like!

Swirling wirework in non-tarnish silvertone wire links another Labradorite oval to the piece. The flash of blue you see in the pic is not a trick of the light -- it really is in the stone. This necklace also features fire-polished Czech glass beads, peweter beads and silver-coloured Swarovski pearls. Clasp and extension chain are rhodium. Necklace measures about 16 1/2 inches.

Metaphysical Properties of Jasper (based on internet research): Jasper was another favourite stone of the ancients and it comes in a constellation of varieties! Jasper is said to drive away negativity and give the user courage to be true to oneself in thought, word and deed. Ocean jasper in particular is believed to promote patience and is a good stone for meditation.

Metaphysical Properties of Labradorite (based on internet research): Labradorite comes from the same family as moonstone. It is said to be a protective stone which also heals mental confusion.

Sweet As Candy 1 - NOW MINNIE'S

Believe it or not, the stones in this creation are actually jade! I had always thought that jade came in green or yellow only. But according to the lady who sold this jade, it comes in a rainbow of shades. This variety is known as Rainbow Jade or Candy Jade. (Edited to add: I did a bit of research, and Candy Jade is actually dyed white jade. The dye is permanent and fade-resistant.)

This sweet concoction features drops of freshwater pearl coins (with accents of Swarovski crystals), goldtone pewter bead spacers and Swarovski pearls. Clasp and extention chain are 14K gold-filled. Necklace is about 16 1/2 inches long, with the extension chain adding another 2 inches or so.

Metaphysical Properties of Jade (based on internet research): Symbol of love and virtue; said to add longevity and strengthen the body.

Sweet As Candy 2 - NOW AMANDA'S

Here is another creation which features Rainbow Jade/Candy Jade. Being a great fan of green/pink combos, I just had to mix watermelon quartz and peridot to bring out those tones in each heart-shaped jade drop.

Each drop features accents of freshwater pearls of varying sizes. The central drop has additional details of sparkling Swarovski crystals. Necklace measures about 16 1/2 inches, with the extension chain adding another 2 inches or so. All wirework in non-tarnish silvertone wire; clasp and chain are rhodium.

Metaphysical Properties of Jade (based on internet research): Symbol of love and virtue; said to add longevity and strengthen the body.

OnTheSoapbox: Human Connections

Three days ago, I entered a conference room at the Hilton, expecting to learn all about coaching. Today, at the end of the course, I feel like I suddenly have a new pair of glasses .... and the world looks pretty darn interesting!

Instead of getting a coaching bag of tricks, we were put on a journey of self-discovery, a journey about CONNECTING with other human beings. We learned about (and practised) the different levels of listening, about focusing on the other person and not "ME"; we tried out being genuinely curious; we learned from each other; we taught each other; we laughed; we cried; we embraced what it means to be human and to recognise the human being in others, in everyone.

I hadn't realised how much I had put myself and others "in the box," affixing labels to all. And labelling people doesn't work, because we're all different and react differently in different situations.

Personally, one of the most important lessons learned was "being in the moment," especially in a coaching situation. Being in the moment means that one's focus is on the here and now and what the other person is communicating (notice I say "communicating" because much can be said non-verbally too). Being in the moment makes true listening much easier because one is not distracted by the past or the what if's of the future or that annoying little voice that jabbers on in one's head.

Being in the moment is HARD! But when it does happen, the connection is incredible. Arrrgh .... this is so hard to put into words.

I'm just so glad to have had the opportunity to attend the co-active coaching course. Gotta love this journey!

OK, getting giddily (and somewhat incoherently) off the soapbox now :-)

Works in Progress....

Sorry I haven't been posting much -- a course and the flu have caused things to come to a standstill of sorts.

There should be more updates next week though, so do check back then. Pictured here are some of the stones/minerals which will be transformed: coral, MORE labradorite, a few varieties of jasper, candy jade and golden shine obsidian.

Thanks for stopping by!

Crazy Lace (S$62) RESERVED

Here's a creation in warm earthy tones of agate, fossil stone and citrine. The three stones in front are crazy lace agate framed by pewter beadcaps. Each feature stone measures about 2.5cm in length and every one has a different pattern marking on it -- uniqueness assured! Necklace measures about 17" with the extension chain adding almost 2 1/2 inches.

Chain and clasp are 14K gold-filled.

Mediterranean (S$28) SOLD

After creating "Protaras" and being reminded of the lovely Mediterannean sea, I just had to do another pendant which reminded me of that once-in-a-lifetime holiday.

For a change, this one is round and measures about 2.5cm in diameter. The wirework -- in non-tarnish silvertone -- picks up the silver foil in the glass, while Czech glass beads add a little sparkle. This pendant will come with a suede cord.

Rheia (S$65) RESERVED

Continuing the history & mythology theme is "Rheia," named after the Ancient Greek earth-goddess of nature and fertility. Rheia's mother was Gaia, the earth.

This creation features turquoise ovals with flecks of earthy brown tones which are picked up by warm honey tigereye beads and jasper chips. The small dangle of tigereye beads in front adds a little visual interest. Necklace is about 16", with the 14K gold-filled extension chain adding another 2" or so. Clasp is also 14K gold-filled.

Protaras (S$38) SOLD

This pendant reminds me of the magical turquoise Mediterranean Sea which laps the shores of Protaras, a gorgeous seaside resort in Cyprus. I had the special privilege of visiting the historically-rich country and the resort last year for a wedding and will never forget the pleasure of gazing at the vast expanse of the ship-less ocean, thinking of all the ancient myths like the one about how Aphrodite was born out of the waves (at Paphos, Cyprus).

The wirework (all non-tarnish silvertone) evokes the gently breaking waves and the lapis lazuli beads remind me of the umbrellas on the beach. Ahhhhhh, I can only hope that there will be another chance to visit again. We can wish!

Earth Goddess (S$38) SOLD

Here is the third of four pendants, and this one is named Earth Goddess because of the colours. "Trees" of non-tarnish goldtone wirework swirl around exotic "fruit" of tigereye, Swarovski crystal and a goldtone bead. "Earth Goddess" comes with a matching cord.

A Mom's Love (S$38) - SOLD

Rich shades of espresso and bronze feature prominently in this pendant. Entwined in the freehand non-tarnish goldtone wirework are beads of tigereye, Swarovski crystals and citrine. The warm tones and embracing curves of the wirework remind me of a nurturing mommy, hence the title of this creation.

Sorry about the photo -- this looks much better in person!

Ice Tea & Lemon (S$38) - SOLD

Just had to have a wirework fix this weekend, and played around, transforming a few glass pendants. Here is the first of four -- the others are in blue/green, brown/bronze and green/brown.

Ice Tea & Lemon is the cousin to "Uno, Due, Tre!" (which I'm thinking or re-doing) and features accents of tigereye beads and Swarovski crystals. Freehand wirework is in non-tarnish goldtone wire. This pendant will come with a matching cord.

Bubblegum (S$30) RESERVED

It was an ear-ring weekend! This is the last of the ear-rings created, and like the others, this one too features Czech glass beads. The main bead in this one is in a mouth-watering shade of sorbet green with baby pink swirls. More Czech glass beads, Swarovski crytals and freshwater pearls pick up the accents in the dangles. Ear hooks and chain are 925 sterling silver.

Sunday, October 09, 2005

Princess (S$30) RESERVED

This creation is named "Princess" because the sparkling Swarovski rondells and pearls which cap the ear-rings remind me of tiaras. The main bead is Czech glass in candy lemon yellow and milky pink, with a broad brush of bronze separating the two colours. The bottom dangle is also Czech glass, with a Swarovski crystal accent. Ear hooks are 14K gold-filled.

Tai Tai (FOR KJJ'S NEW OUTFIT)

These ear-rings were made to go with KJJ's new outfit bought on holiday recently. They're made from Czech glass beads, Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls. Wirework is in non-tarnish goldtone wire; ear hooks and chain are 14K gold-filled.

Enjoy these ear-rings, Joh!

VaVaVa Voom! (D's RACE EAR-RINGS)

These sumptuous dangly ear-rings were created to go with D's hot chartreuse dress which will be worm at the races. This concoction features Czech glass beads and Swarovski crystals. The photo doesn't quite pick up all the tones of gold, bronze and green. All wirework is in non-tarnish goldtone wire. Chain and ear hooks are 14K gold-filled.

Hope you like 'em, D; Enjoy!

Pink Pizzazz (S$75) - SOLD

There was only one strand left when I bought these juicy pink mother of pearl beads, and I didn't do anything with them for a long time because they looked so pretty just sitting here at my work area! But the time has come for these beads to find a new home as a compliment-attracting perky necklace for someone.

All wirework is in tarnish-resistant goldtone wire. Clasp and extension chain are 14K gold-filled. Twinkles provided courtesy of Swarovski crystals.

Luxor Ear-Rings (S$35)

Here are the matching ear-rings for "Dreams of Luxor." Carnelian circles with accents of little lapis lazuli beads anchor the dangles of goldtone tubes, Swarovski crystals and the same goldtone scrolls which are featured in the necklace. Ear hooks are 14K gold-filled.

Take 10% off if you'd like the matching necklace and ear-rings combo. So instead of S$115, you can feel like an Egyptian princess for $100. How about that ;-)

Dreams of Luxor (S$80) NOW AZ'S

The history bug has bitten! This 17" necklace draws its inspiration from Ancient Egypt and features carnelian and lapis lazuli, two stones which were used quite a lot by the Egyptians. In fact, lapis was used in many of their religious ceremonies.

Ancient Egypt aside, from what I've read, "Lapis lazuli was one of the stones in the 'Breastplate of Judgement' of Aaron, described in the Bible (Exodus: xxviii, 15-30)." Interesting.

Other "ingredients" in this necklace include: Swarovski crystals and pearls, wirework scrolls in goldtone tarnish-resistant wire and goldtone tube beads. Clasp and extension chain are 14K gold-filled.

Bo-Jo (S$30)

While out at a most lovely lunch today with A, I bumped into my skinny-beanie sister ... actually, she saw me and shouted her head off while Ms Oblivious happily carried on walking. Luckily my Magpie pal saw her and the sisters got to talk.

I named these ear-rings after my sister because the creation is slim and streamlined like her. She got all the skinny genes and I was left with the non-skinny ones ... hahaha! These ear-rings feature black onyx, silvertone wirework, Swarovski pearls and crystals. Ear hooks are rhodium.

Shades of Byzantium Ear Rings (S$32) SOLD

These ear-rings repeat the dangles of the Shades of Byzantium necklace. Carnelian, freshwater pearls, Swarovski pearls and crystals hang prettily off a 14K gold-filled ear hook. Drop is about 2"/4.5cm. If you'd like the necklace and ear-rings, take 10% off the total -- so the combo is S$93.60 ;-)

Shades of Byzantium (S$72) SOLD

The Byzantine Empire, also known as the Eastern Roman Empire, lasted over 1,100 years. During much of its history, there was a great flourishing of the arts. Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) was the Byzantine capital and if you visit the city today, you'll still see hints of the wonderful Byzantine art and craftsmanship at places such as Hagia Sophia.

So what has this history rigmarole got to do with this piece? :) Well, firstly, the design was inspired by a pic of a Byzantine ear-ring (the dangles caught my eye!). And secondly, Carnelian (from which this creation is made) is a stone which the ancients revered and used quite a bit. The Greeks and Romans called it Sardius and used the stone for signet rings, cameos and other jewellery.

In addition to carnelian coins and tubes, this 16" necklace also features freshwater pearl coins, Swarovski crystals and bronze Swarovski pearls. Clasp and extension chain are 14K gold-filled.

That's Swirl! (S$28 each)

Here are more swirly pendants -- this time in goldtone and silvertone with matching Swarovski crystal and pearl accents. Each pendant is about 1.5cm square, and the dangles add approximately another 2cm in length.

Each will come with a beige or black cord, but you could also hang the pendant on a chain or ribbon, depending on the look you're after.

Caramel Chocolate (S$69)

When I first bought these mixed agates, they looked so much like a bag of toffee and caramel and chocolates, hence the name of this double-strand creation. I added picture jasper and Swarovski pearls to the concoction and wire-wrapped some of the larger stones too. All wirework is in tarnish-resistant goldtone wire. Clasp is 14K gold-filled.

Raqs Sharqi (S$30) - NOW FIONA'S

"Raqs Sharqi" is Arabic for "dance of the Orient" (thanks, Az) and is a beautiful art form which I've had the pleasure and honour of studying under a most talented and beautiful dancer. She didn't just teach us the techniques, she led us to explore the culture and soul of the dance form.

This pair of ear-rings reminds me of the gorgeous costumes and glittering hip scarves. Long dangles of Swarovski beads hang off ornate red and green cloisonne beads. Chains and ear hook are 14K gold-filled.

Cream and Gold (S$32) SOLD

Here is a pair of simple and elegant ear-rings. They'd add a touch of class to almost any outfit! Scrolls in tarnish-resistant goldtone wire add warmth to freshwater pearl coins and provide a visual link to the creamy polished fossil stones. Capping the creation are sparkling Swarovski crystals in Golden Topaz. Ear hooks are 14K gold-filled.

Monday, October 03, 2005

Bronze Beauty (S$68)

Rich, warm chocolate tones dominate in this classic piece. Honey hues of agate and matte goldtone tubes complement the bronzestone beads. The pendant section is made up of polished fossil stone squares, off which hangs a Swarovski crystal and a hand-made swirly wire charm. S-hook clasp is 14K gold-filled.

Purple Vines Pendant (S$38) SOLD

Swinging admist tendrils of goldtone tarnish-resistant wire hang carved amethyst and jade leaves, glimmering Swarovski crystals and a creamy freshwater pearl. Pair this with "Precious Leaves" for opulent glam!

Wired & Wonderful (S$72)

Freehand wirework dresses up labradorite nuggets. Swarovski pearls and pewter beads pick up the silver theme while a pretty 925 silver flower connects the necklace to the central pendant. Clasp and extension chain at the back are rhodium-plated. Wire is tarnish-resistant.

What a sweetie

My sweetie had been away for a few days on a biz trip and when he got back, I got a prezzie too! This means a lot to me, because he's always hinting that I spend too much on supplies. I don't know what these will become, but will be sure to post the pics when they're done!

Going Dotty (S$75) - NOW FIONA'S

Dalmation jasper, black onyx, a wirework pendant and 925 silver additions combine to make this a playful, fun and different necklace. Dalmation jasper, though not rare, is quite uncommon. Expect the compliments to come when you have this cutie on!

Chain and clasp are rhodium. Bicone Swarovski crystals lend subtle sparkle at the end of the dangles.
