Still I Rise - Maya Angelou

Oprah is on TV now, and Maya Angelou is reciting poetry.... "An Amazing Peace" ... aaahhhhhhhhh! WHAT A TREAT! That poem was penned last year for the US National Christmas Tree lighting thingie.

I don't know very much about Dr Angelou's writings, but I do have a book of her poetry and my all-time favourite is "Still I Rise". These lines in particular reminded me of why I love what Fiona taught us about Middle Eastern Dance ...

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

For me at least, MED classes were a liberating experience, where we could just let loose, be ourselves and just get lost in the music and movement. Who cared if the belly was jello-floppy :)
