Dance For Peace
This is turning out to be Middle Eastern Dance year for me :) And I have to thank SinLady for starting the ball rolling with the invitation to Nur Shiblie's event earlier this year.
Last night, Samra held her Dance For Peace event at the Peninsula Excelsior Hotel ... and it was quite an event -- a spectacle of colour, rhythms and lots of blingaliciously sparkly outfits and accessories.
The highlight of the evening for me was the company. F is back for a holiday!!!!!!!!! And it was SO GOOD to see everyone else too.
There were quite a number of performances (artistes from Singapore, Spain, Australia and Turkey) and a fashion show/danceathon.
My favourite performance was the one by Nigma of Spain (pictured left ... sorry for the lousy pic), who mesmerised with a full gypsy/tribal routine.
It brought back many memories of when Desert Rhythm experimented with that style for the Chingay Parade as well as the performance at NUS.
Another highlight was -- to borrow 3a girl's term -- "Wonder Boy" Darren. It's not very common to see male MED dancers, let alone dancers from Singapore.
I recall one of Darren's first performances a couple of years ago and he has grown in confidence and style. The teenager (I think) shimmied, undulated and generally rocked the house!
AND yes (thanks, MM!), I must not neglect to mention ROSE!!!! She's such a vibrant, energetic dancer who just lit up the ballroom. I was so taken in with her performance that I forgot to take a photo.... and that says a lot about the calibre of her performance because I spent last night snapping anything that moved.
And finally, here is a pic of Samra, the force behind Dance For Peace. Pictured with her, on the right, is Stacey, another performer.
If the piccie looks odd, it's because I cropped myself out ... hahahaha! Didn't want to spoil the photo.
:)
Hmmmm.... Why do I have the feeling that the hip scarves are going to come out again pretty soon?

Yes, yes, take 'em out! Take 'em out & shake them .. OK, that sounds bad. You know I meant the hip scarves, doncha ...
Anyway, you are so right. The company was excellent and I truly have not had so much fun with a bunch of "sisters of the dance" (barf) in such a long time.
You forgot to mention Rose! She truly was what I was waiting for the whole night and boy, was it well worth the wait.
Anyway, I want the pictures! Want a snapshot of all of us together - rare pix with Fiona now that she has been lured away! No time to post my review but I will try to do so soon.
Planning to review the Cairo! Cairo! event?
MM, you gorgeous babe! It was SO GOOD seeing you last nite. Yeah, I forgot to mention Rose and that terrible oversight has been corrected.
She was super, wasn't she! She was so engaging, I forgot to take a photo of her performance ... that's how engaging she was.
Also, believe it or not, I don't have a group photo of us....aaaacccck! Will ask Julie.
As for Cairo! Cairo! I have only photos of the hafla and there is only one thing I want to say about that ... when you dance, you touch hearts. I still get goosebumps thinking about your performance. Can't wait to catch you in action again!
Ah, you girls had so much fun...wish i could be there....had either been working my weekends but last weekend was plagued by strange stomach virus. totally frail and robbed off all my vitality now.
Will be wonderful if you got back into the dance again. I just did after laying off it for 2 impossibly long years! And wow, I feel complete again :) suziewong, sorry to know abt the stomach flu, but happy that last i checked u made miraculous recovery to perform at H's!!! Come party with all of us soon.
Miss you lots, Suzie! Hope you're feeling better now.
don't know who's cam it was that took the group pic - either Evon or K. Sin Lady - can you ask K for me? I will ask Evon this Sat.
Suzie Wong - hope you feeling way way better by now. BTW there is a nasty gastro-intestinal flu strain going around, that would explain your recent tummy troubles. Meet up with you soon, at Yousry's workshops?
Bling Mama - errr. that's you, Simone. Wanna date me for Yousry's workshops?
what fun that would be!
