Bazaar Thanks!
What a weekend! (the pic shows the Clarke Quay newfangled roof at night)
Many thanks to BlingFriends old and new for dropping by the Blingalicious table. Thank you too for your SMS's and e-mails of encouragement :) Special mention must be made of the warm couple from Western Australia -- your thoughtfulness and encouragement mean a lot...thank you.
And if you watch Channel News Asia, you may have also caught coverage of the Bazaar!
It was a cosy event, with about 30 tables showcasing a variety of items including: homeware from Africa, mosaic lamps from Bali, jewellery, bags, cheongsams, art, shoes and other items.
For the most part, I had a good time.
It was fun speaking with tourists; I am grateful to the Singaporeans who stopped by and wished the vendors well; and my neighbours were absolute darlings. On my left was a talented French artist (if you saw the Channel News Asia feature, that artist they featured was her) and to my right were Mama and Missy, who had cute cheongsams. Both neighbours made the long hours pass by more quickly.
BUT I must write about some ugly behaviour, because this was the first time I had encounted people like this at a Faire or Bazaar, and I hope never to meet them again:
1. The secret picture-takers
If you want to take a pic of the table, please ask me as a courtesy. I'll gladly pose too, if you like ... hahahaha! But please DO NOT sneak in a snap when you think I am not looking. Anyways, I have a camera too, and if you want to take a pic of me without asking, I will take a pic of you too without asking. Not a nice feeling, is it?
2. The ignorers
Smiles cost nothing. If a vendor says hello, just acknowledge his/her presence with a smile ... or do SOMETHING instead of acting like the person is not there.
One group -- complete with cute sleeping baby in tow -- irked me so much, I had to walk away & turn my back to them till they left. They pawed the creations, chatted amongst themselves and never once responded to my greetings (even a "what a cute baby you have" didn't elicit the faintest glance). Oh wait, they did cast a dirty look after I walked away. Not very nice.
The Blingalicious table is a fun zone, so please let's treat each other with respect.
3. The I-can-do-better posers
My poor neighbour (the artist) had a person remark to her kid: "My drawing is better". How rude is that?! If you think you can do better, then, good for you -- no need to belittle others and teach your kid bad manners at the same time.
Sorry for the less-than-upbeat post. So much has been said about poor service standards in Singapore, blah blah blah. But I've now been on the other side several times now and can truly say that it is a two-way street.

Hi Rachel! No worries ... there are two more Faires coming up ... hahahhahah! No rest for the wicked, as the saying goes.
I will post pics of available items soon, so keep an eye out :) And thanks for the reminder to let the ugly behaviour go -- it's their problem at the end of the day, not mine.
You take care too!!!
For what it's worth, your grouses are totally legit. Catch u at next faire. Meantime, I send plenty of *sayangs* your way.

we've been in touch and talking about sparkling things ... Hmmm, pennies for both of your thoughts ;P
Hello! been popping into your website for some time. hope you don't mind =) i hope you had fun at the bazaar, although you met some unpleasant folks. well.. i must say that service in singapore is getting better, especially at small bazaars and flea markets where personal interaction is really impt and makes the buying/selling much more interesting. there is a story behind every creation and i love to know the story behind each. so hope you will not let those unpleasant pple affect you but continue to interact with blingfriends! =) take care
Ooh sorry about the ugly singaporean. hmm don't know what to say because at some point i must be guilty of that too! anyway love your passion and zeal
Hello Ellen! Thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your comments -- much appreciated!
Yeah, the best part about bazaars is the whole more intimate buying/selling experience. And that's why I enjoy chatting with everyone who visits the Blingalicious table; I often encourage vistors to just play and have fun :) and I will continue to do so.
Life is too short to worry about cranky people.
You take care too!!!
