Packaging Experiment - Simple Ear-Rings

I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for pretty packaging :)

So today, I experimented with something new. Pictured on the left is the result!

This is for a simple pair of ear-rings and if I can figure out how to do this efficiently and quickly, it will be the new packaging for all new simple ear-rings.

If the experiment fails (because it takes too much time to pull together), no worries -- you still get your ear-rings in a pretty little pouch and instead of a hand-made card, you still get a hand-written card or note :))

Does packaging matter to you as a customer? What do you look for? I'd love to know what you think. Thanks!

I'm a greenie. So I'm for less packaging. :p but the card is a very nice touch.

Hi Ruth! Have fun translating your ideas into reality. I desperately needed to use up my Everest of scrapbooking supplies, which was what prompted this experiment.

Hey Wildgoose! I hear you about ensuring there isn't excessive packaging & will keep that in mind as I experiment more :)

For me, security of the trinkets is of utmost importance sending them or receiving them. When I get packages in my mailbox, I get pretty happy(delirious kind) when they come securely wrapped & taped up(even for a piece of top). Then again it could be an occupational hazard. :p Bubble wrap, secure taping over them, more bubble wrap is the way to go for me. Even when I buy perfume, the cuteness of the bottle does nothing to me. Liking what's in it is more important.

BTW that's a pretty, very pretty way to package your earrings!

Hi Pink Boudoir! Thanks for sharing your thoughts & the compliment :)

Yeah, I hear you about bubble wrap :) My place looks like we're moving because of all the rolls of bubble wrap lying around :)) There is so much of it, I'm sooo over popping the bubbles for fun...hahaha!

As for your other point, I think for most of us, it's what's inside that counts; a cute outside is the bonus, the (chocolate) icing on the cake -- that's my philisophy anyway, & it applies to human beings as well ... hahaha!

WWoooo the fringe ties looks delish, is the background parchment paper??

To me ultimately I would still care most about what is inside the package but I'm a SUCKER for nice packaging too;P

Hello Chev! The background is paper which florists use; don't know what it's called, but it has a nice texture, is thick and yet translucent. The ties are raffia.

And I agree that it's the inside that matters the most :)) But ohhhh I'm a nutso about ribbons and ties and whatnots! EXCEPT when it comes to some perfume packaging where it's all box, lots of air and a teeny (by comparison) bottle of perfume.

Oh, and some hampers too, with all that empty space at the bottom.

Oh, and some chicken rice places too, where they strategically place the chicken on a mountain of cabbage leaves, making it look like there is LOTS of chicken. But in reality, it's 80% greens.

Ok now i've made myself hungry ... hahahhaha! HOW does one get from paper to chicken rice????!!!!

LOL. Simone, you're so funny! It is indeed more important that the jewelry is securely wrapped, but who doesn't like pretty wrappings??? I keep all the lovely cards, ribbons and wrappings from sellers all the time. :P

Hi Simone!! I think the packaging is cute! Though, I'm actually quite a sucker for crepe paper wrapping that wrap looks very simple and it makes me want to touch it. LOL.

YES, packaging matters to me just as much as the actual product. Am I being "unfair"???? I think that if people put enough effort in making jewelry, they should put just enough effort in packaging as well.

I remember I bought a pair of earrings from this Yahoo! auction seller and when my item arrived, it was a DISASTER. All that tape and bubble wrap for a teeny weeny pair of earrings drove me nuts. Even my with my scissors, it took me a good 10 minutes to pry through the package. @#(*^$#%%%!!!!!

It's good to be cautious about wrapping the product but being too paranoid about it actually drives customers away too.

Anyway, I REALLY love the way you pack your items. I always look forward to receiving my orders =D

The efficient bit sure is impt! I've tore my hair out coz i kept doing repetitive stuff for packaging. Sigh. And then when you use it up so quickly as compared to how long it took for you to get it done it's exasperating!!

But it sure is pretty!!

Hi Mamimoo!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well. I guess it's all about balance :)) The product has to be good and the packaging has to be decent.

And speaking of orders, I must go visit YOU and see what pretties to pick up from you!!!

Hello Wan! I know what you mean :)) When I first started buying stuff online, I got a big kick out of the ribbons and cards that sometimes came along with the parcels -- it was almost like Christmas! Hahahhaha!

So many interesting points have been raised so far (eg. it helps to think green and secure is good)!

Hello Dawne! Yeah, the "efficient" part of the equation is certainly important, especially since there is just a finite number of hours a day.

But you know what, i think that whatever effort you put in counts. The care you take to ensure an item isn't just chucked into an envelope says to your customer that you care for his/her patronage. It also says something about your brand.

Now if only we could get more than 24 hrs in a day! Hahahhaha!
