On The Soapbox: Karma

I've been thinking about the concept of Karma lately, in my quest to understand why people do some of the wicked, poisonous things they do. According to Wikipedia, Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म from the root kri, "to do", meaning deed) ... is a term in several eastern religions that comprises the entire cycle of cause and effect. Karma is a sum of all that an individual has done and is currently doing. The effects of those deeds actively create present and future experiences, thus making one responsible for one's own life.

I like! I like the notion of taking personal responsibility and the thought that "what goes around, comes around". It's like the Newton's Law of the universe.

So in this Year of the Dog, I'm going to try to remember that my actions have an impact on others -- and that it's sooooo much better for that impact to be a positive rather than a negative one. After all, Karma can be a biat** or a best friend/relative.

Here's a link to a for-fun Karma quiz ... http://www.blogthings.com/howsyourkarmaquiz/ How's your Karma?

Hi Simone,

I agree with Suzie Wong .... luv the name ..... that you're sprinkling gold dust on people around you. You have good karma! Carry on spreading the 'goodness' or gold dust as Suzie Wong has mentioned. You've been very kind to me. You were born with a creative streak. No amount of 'blogs' set up by me could 'inspire' you if you didn't have it in you. You're a great gal and its been my and Francis' pleasure to have watched you grow from a baby to the wonderful young woman you are today! Keep sprinkling yr goodness. God knows some of us need it! GONG XI FA CAI to you, EuChong and Muski(??? hiyah not sure if the name's spelt right. Why can't he just be called Fido or Dido like normal canines!) Catch up with you soon!
