Get Crafty ... Warning: indulgent post ahead :)
Just a few days ago, I was reminded of an incident with satay sticks, a ball of wool and a very patient cousin :)
Many decades years ago, as a pesky little six-year-old, a certain little busybody pestered her soon-to-be-married cousin to teach her to knit, after being fascinated by the clickety-clack of the hip cousin's knitting needles.... and a handiwork monster was born. Hahahahhahah! Belinda also taught me crochet, by the way.
Then, still before the 20's, came book-making/scrapbooking, needlework, oil painting and dressmaking (as a teen, I made my own clothes for Christmas ... oh gosh, I was so proud of those clumsy seams and crooked hems... hahahhaha!).
More recently, lampworking, glass fusing, art clay and jewellery-making were thrown into the mix.
While I don't consider myself any sort of artistan (faaaar from it) or anything that remotely resembles a Martha Stewart-esque Guru, I've come to realise that the best part of indulging in any handiwork is the creative journey itself. And this latest hobby (jewellery-making) has taught me so much about myself, about people and about the sheer FUN that can be had.
So in the same spirit of enjoyment, I thought to share some photos which feature one of my too-many hobbies -- dressmaking. I think I've mentioned Bambini (clothes for little girls) before. In this post, you'll also find a pic of part of a bellydance outfit I had made for class.
If you've been thinking of getting crafty too, just take that leap, keep an open mind and ENJOY!
PS. The *business* of crafting is another matter altogether. But that's another post for another day.

Haha.....I remember that! Whilst my mum sewed all Pat's and my dresses, I also crotchetted my own dresses. I used to be obsessed with the label MIKI and thats when I decided it would be cheaper if I made my own stuff. I'm amazed when I think that not only did I teach you to knit, I also taught myself knitting and crotchet and made all the booties/receiving blanket's/
cardigans for Charlene and Glenn!
We have come a long way haven't we!
:D It has been a wonderful journey of learning and discovery .... and FUN! And ohhhh yes, I remember you making things for Charlene and Glenn.
Now that you mention it, I also remember Aunty Pearlin sewing our clothes too!! Jo-Anne and I had matching little mini dresses with peter pan collars and my favourite was a navy blue shift with white polka-dots.
Gosh, and to think she did it all without a paper pattern. Makes me want to dig out my vintage dressmaking books now!
Actually my mum is the "Martha Stewart" of the family. Now we know where our talent comes from! btw your mum is a great - 'cross-stitcher'!
That bellydance skirt is just amazing! I love the colors.
How long have you been dancing? Would you care to join a bellydancer group blog? I just started one, and it would be fun to have you if you want to be a part of it. :)
Hello Aimee. Thanks for visiting and your kind words :) The bellydance skirt/pants were made for use in class and I had loads of fun shimmey-ing around in it -- hahahhaa!
I started dancing about four years ago but stopped when my teacher moved to London. I do dance occasionally now, but need desperately to get back into the groove :) Will visit your blog and check it out.
Thanks again!
